A journalist working online has posted a shocking exposé of the situation inside the Paestum Cordon, showing the world the rapidly deteriorating conditions therein. Inside the cordon itself it the death toll is totally unknown, but it is believed that the virus has escaped from the hospital and is ravaging the area completely unchecked. The Urban Cohorts are reportedly strained to the breaking point handling the crisis, and there are only 11 officers of the Cohorts inside the cordon to police almost 4,000 people. Due to the strict rules of the cordon, which permit neither ingress nor egress, the Cohorts cannot send further officers inside the Cordon to aid the beleaguered officers inside. Further, there have been several escape attempts, the most recent of which resulted in the shooting of a man who refused to return.
The shooting is merely the culmination of the tensions inside the cordon, according to the recent publication. Inside the cordon itself, the Cohorts are reported to have shot several looters and criminals, and law and order therein are at a severe risk of breaking down. Research into the virus has not yet yielded a cure, but it is reported that the Health Ministry has acknowledged that, thus far, the virus has a near-100% case-fatality rate. However, analysts have weighed in, saying that even despite its highly virulent nature, if the virus is held within the cordon, the lack of a cure will still ensure that all within perish from the virus, which will kill the virus for lack of host material.
The Urban Cohorts are currently planning to organize a food drop for the residents inside, as rations are expected to run out shortly. Gang activity inside the cordon has spiked immensely, an unavoidable consequence of the sealed nature of the cordon. The situation inside is precariously tenuous, and what happens next will be determined by the actions of those trapped inside.
EURASIA TO ACCEPT TARAJANI ASSISTANCE
Ministry of Health to accept the assistance of Tarajani CDC personnel; Health Prime Minister releases statement
In an unprecedented and unexpected move, the Ministry of Health suddenly announced that it planned to accept the assistance of and work with Tarajani doctors and scientists in an effort to halt the spread and breadth of the virus in Paestum. Despite the usually secretive and clandestine nature of Eurasian internal politics, it appears they have been temporarily cast aside in the interest of protecting the citizens of Paestum and stopping any further spread of the dangerous influenza virus therein.
The Prime Minister of Health, Sen. Gnaeus Hosidius Geta, held a press conference on the issue, saying "Despite the differences in belief between Eurasia and New Tarajan in the past, it is the belief of this Ministry that these differences must be cast aside if we are to protect the people of the Empire and of the world. IT would be foolish for us to not accept help offered to us, especially when it offered to us by those from whom the virus originated. This bioterrorist was a Tarajani, and whilst obviously the Tarajani Government had nothing to do with the attack, they might have key knowledge relating to the virus, as they might have dealt with it previously. Eurasia will be accepting Tarajani doctors to aid us in preventing the spread of this disease.
The Imperial Palace also issued a brief written statement, saying "Eurasia thanks the Tarajani Kingdom for their offer of assistance in this regard, and wel look forward to working with them to stop this malady from its further progression.
" As is characteristic of Urbem Sol in times of crisis, very little has been seen of the Emperor or of the cabinet. Generally, such times as these, the Prime Minister for whom the issue is most pertinent takes the public helm, whilst the Emperor manages issues from behind the scenes. Eurasians should take heart in knowing that Urbem Sol has not taken a proactive approach in handling the situation directly, as if or when they do it will be indicative of the situation reaching near-catastrophic levels.
